Main topics for spoken communication lessons

For the German INTENSIVE and PREMIUM courses, you can choose between two different topic areas to focus on during your speaking lessons. Please let us know with your booking, which of the two options you would like to choose.

Communication & Culture

With the focus on Communication & Culture, you will be guided on a journey of discovery through German culture and history. With a variety of exciting and interesting materials and media you will explore the arts, architecture, literature and daily life in Germany. Each week will have a different weekly topic.

The starting point for the course is Berlin. The focus is not on dates, statistics and figures, it is on a lively exploration and discussion of the topic itself.

• Berlin today • Film / TV • The Berlin Wall / GDR •
• Youth culture / Subculture • Art • Migration / Turkish Berlin •
• Everyday life in Berlin / Communication • National Socialism •
• Reading / Literature • Religion / Jewish Berlin •

In order to enroll in these communication lessons, you should already have reached the end of the A1 level (approximately 150-200 hours of learning German). The Communication & Culture course can be booked on a weekly basis for up to 12 weeks, starting on the first Monday of each month.

Business & Career

In the Business & Career lessons you will address a different topic each week. The topics vary from training and apprenticeships in Germany to employer/employee relations; from tax and social security to the legal forms of companies; from economic development programmes to contracts and negotiations.

The primary focus is on getting to grips with the topics related to working life, economics and careers. You will encounter the vocabulary and language related to these topics, as well as engage in discussions and task-based activities designed to make sure that the topics are personally relevant and communication is authentic. Members of these groups will also take part in projects which will involve researching the topic and preparing a small presentation.

• Job applications / CVs / Job interviews • Types of companies •
• Employment conditions / Employment law •
• Advertising and Marketing • Globalisation / Import and Export •
• Workflows and division of responsibilities within companies •

In order to join the Business & Career communication lessons, you will need to have reached the B1 level (approximately 450 hours of German). Courses start on the first Monday of each month and can be booked on a weekly basis for up to 8 weeks.
