Berlin - a good place to learn Turkish

Flag of the Republic of Turkey

Our Turkish classes are designed to practice and improve the four basic skills: listening, writing, reading and speaking. Group discussions, role-playing exercises and conversation in the class all lead to an improvement of self-expression, vocabulary building and mastery of grammar in Turkish.

The quality of an Turkish course is dependent on the competency and skill of the teacher. That is why only native speaking Turkish teachers with year long experience in teaching adults are employed by Prolog.

The smaller the group, the more effective the class. For this reason, Turkish courses at Prolog have between three and six participants. And for those who think that even this is too many people we offer Turkish for pairs and individuals.

At the bottom of this page you will find information concerning the starting dates of upcoming Turkish courses. The Turkish Language - An Overview

Turkish (or Türkçe) is the official language in Turkey and belongs to the wider group of Turkic languages. Alternatively, the language is also known as Turkey-Turkish. Turkish has a number of different dialects, but it is Istanbul Turkish which is established as the official standard language of Turkey. Other dialects are spoken in the Black Sea region, Eastern Anatolia and the area around the Aegean, amongst others.

Turkish today is spoken by around 58 million people in Turkey and hails directly back to the Oghuz subgroup of languages used by the Turk tribes that established themselves in Central Asia and were threatened from the 8th century on to the west by the Uyghur-Turkish tribes. Also included in this group were the languages of the Göktürks, Seljuqs and the later Ottomans.

Turkish is an agglutinative language (grammatical functions are shown by the use of affixes) and differs clearly from the Indo-European languages. This means that all grammatical forms are created by the use of different endings affixed to base words. A number of different affixes can be used at the same time, but their order is strictly regulated.
