Trees for Berlin

To celebrate its 20th anniversary, PROLOG has decided to do something good for the environment. The school has donated 20 trees to the charitable organisation “Trees for Berlin“, established by the “Federation for the environment and protection of nature“.

The first six trees have already been planted, two of which are in the immediate vicinity of the school, in Akazienstraße, near the Apostel-Paulus-Kirche.

With the donation of these trees, PROLOG demonstrates its commitment to environmental protection. Berlin is a very green city, but as a result of storms, droughts and damage, thousands of trees are lost every year. The major storms in July 2002 alone led to more than 10,000 trees losing their lives.

Public funds are obviously limited. It is for this reason that the “Trees for Berlin“ action was started.

Whether choosing to adopt or donate a tree, private individuals, organisations and companies can all participate. Deutsche Telekom, IKEA and Deutsche Post are all donors. So far, the planting of in excess of 1000 young trees has been financed as part of this campaign to “re-forest“ Berlin's streets. Berlin's Park's Commission has been equally generous in agreeing to take on the long-term care of the new trees - and the costs involved.

What's interesting about these anniversary donations is, not only does the school receive official donor's certificates from the Federation, but each tree is also marked with its own shield. So, the next time you're walking along one of Berlin's streets and you see a young tree, take a closer look: it might be a PROLOG tree!
